psst. refresh for a new haiku.

what is haiku?

haiku (俳句) is a form of poetry that developed over centuries in japan1. as the form evolved, its rules and recommendations were crafted, bent, broken, and put back together by many a skilled poet. in the west, many people learn of haiku as a type of poem that is strict on syllable count: 5 syllables, followed by 7, then by 5.

i mostly ignore the syllabic rules. instead i try to capture a single moment, usually in nature, usually associated with a season (though the seasons as we experience them in northern europe rather than in japan.) i hope you find some peace in these little moments as i have.

all haiku shared here are of my own creation.
